Visma Net and Business Central are the two ERP systems that most often end up on the shortlist when a Swedish e-commerce company has outgrown Fortnox or Spiris. Both connect to Shopify and WooCommerce, both have orders, inventory and multiple companies, and both are delivered through partners. For an online store the difference comes down to four things: how orders and inventory are connected, what happens to the payouts from Klarna and Shopify Payments, how the reseller's order and invoice are handled, and what it costs when many people need to work in the system. Everything about Business Central below comes from Microsoft's own documentation, with dates. The general comparison, covering banking, OCR, VAT and approvals, is in Visma Net vs Business Central. This one is about the web shop.
Short answer: Business Central or Visma Net for e-commerce?
- you already work in Microsoft's world
- you want Microsoft's own Shopify connector and Copilot
- and you have a partner who sets up the apps for banking, OCR, VAT and e-invoicing and the routine for reconciling payouts
- the Shopify order should become a sales order with inventory, Klarna and accounting in one flow, without apps from several vendors
- stock in the store should match the warehouse, and the margin per channel and market should be visible without Excel
- you also sell to resellers and want invoicing, OCR and the credit limit to work out of the box
- finance should run by itself from order to posted, with agents that propose and you approving
- payouts should be reconciled order by order and approved before they are posted
- many people need to work and approve in the system without the license growing
- and you want to try the flow in our demo store, and see it built on your own Visma Net at a fixed price, before you say yes
Both systems receive the order. The difference is what happens to the money, and who pays per user.
What decides it for a growing online store or wholesaler
Both systems handle orders, inventory and multiple companies. For a Swedish online retailer or wholesaler that is growing, eight things decide it, and there Visma Net, with Click to Cash on top, covers more in the standard product:
Most of it is Visma Net out of the box. The payouts, the stock going out to the store, the subaccount from the order and the credit hold applying already in the store are what Click to Cash adds on top. And the last row is how we work: you see the flow working, first in our store and then in your own, with a real integration to the ERP, before you decide. The price does not change afterwards. For a wholesaler selling to retailers, it is often the invoice that takes time: OCR, e-invoices to buyers who require them, reminders and credit control. That is Visma Net's home ground.
If you sell across the Nordics, it works the same way. The customer pays in their own currency in Shopify, the order is posted in Swedish kronor, the same currency Shopify Payments pays out in and the one that can be reconciled, and VAT follows the country the customer buys in. If you invoice resellers abroad directly in Visma Net, the invoice can be in their currency, every cash account has its own currency and is reconciled in the system, and AutoPay pays suppliers in foreign currency.
In short: for a Swedish online retailer or wholesaler that is growing, perhaps selling across the Nordics, and wants finance to run by itself, Visma Net with Click to Cash is the system where the most is already included.
The Shopify connector: Microsoft's own versus Click to Cash
With Click to Cash, the integration between Shopify and Visma Net is included. We build it, run it against our own Visma Net in the demo store where you can try it, and maintain it after go-live. Business Central has Microsoft's own Shopify Connector, preinstalled in the product. This is how they differ, and how ours works in detail is in Shopify and Visma Net: how the integration works.
Imported through the job queue and can become sales orders automatically.
A paid order becomes a sales order within seconds. The sales order mirrors the state of the order, so an edit, a partial shipment or a return comes out right without manual work.
Synchronized in both directions, with B2B catalogs and catalog prices.
Items, variants and prices from Visma Net; new products in the store become items with a VAT class.
The "Sync inventory" report in the job queue sends available stock to Shopify on a schedule.
Visma Net is the source of truth. Stock is sent every five minutes and right after every shipment and return, per warehouse and Shopify location.
Posted shipments are synchronized as fulfillments.
Every shipment in Shopify becomes a shipment and an invoice, including partial shipments.
Returns and refunds are synchronized to Business Central.
The return becomes a return order, a receipt and a credit note against the original order.
Shopify companies are synchronized as customers, with catalogs.
The reseller's order is booked on its own customer in Visma Net, with its prices and terms; the reseller sees its invoices in the store.
Supported, with locations and transactions.
Supported: an order at the register becomes a sales order just like a web order, and the register's location is a warehouse in Visma Net.
The order comes into both systems. With Click to Cash it goes all the way: to the warehouse, the invoice, the payout and the books, without anyone doing anything.
The payouts: with Click to Cash the reconciliation is included
When the customer pays at checkout, Shopify records a transaction, and when Klarna or Shopify Payments pays out, a lump sum arrives at the bank, minus fees and refunds. Making it match the orders is what usually takes time.
With Click to Cash, the reconciliation is included. The customer's payment is registered as a prepayment on the sales order against a clearing account per payment provider, and when Klarna, Shopify Payments or another checkout provider, such as Svea or Swedbank Pay, pays out, every line in the settlement is matched to the prepayment. The journal entry is created on hold in Visma Net, with the fee and VAT separately, and someone on your side releases it. The whole model, with the accounts, is in Booking Klarna and Shopify payouts in Visma Net.
- Paid order
- Sales order
- Invoice
- Prepayment
- Matched per order
- You release
The prepayment sits on the clearing account until the payout is matched. The fee becomes a cost, VAT is posted separately and the net goes to the bank. The clearing account is at zero once the payout is posted.
In Business Central, the "Suggest Shopify Payments" action applies the transactions to the invoices. The payout itself is reconciled in the bank reconciliation against an interim account per payment provider, where the fee is written off, and Microsoft writes that payouts in the connector are "for information purposes only". It works, usually with the partner's help or an app, and Klarna is outside Microsoft's connector.
Automation: inventory, finance and follow-up that run by themselves
Business Central has Copilot and agents in the product, including for sales orders and vendor invoices. Visma Net has AI Connect, Visma's own connection to Claude and Microsoft Copilot, generally available since June 2026. But for an online store, the big automation does not sit in an assistant you ask. It sits in the flow, where nobody has to do anything at all. This is what it looks like with Click to Cash:
A paid order becomes a sales order in eight seconds, with account, VAT and subaccount on every line. Nobody codes it.
The shipment and the invoice are created when the warehouse ships, and the return becomes a return order and a credit note against the original order.
Klarna and Shopify Payments are matched order by order, with the fee separately. The journal entry waits for your yes.
Visma Net sends stock per warehouse and Shopify location to the store every five minutes and right after every shipment and return. Nobody sells what is not there.
Channel, market and product group land in the subaccount on every line from the order, so the margin per channel, collection and market is in Visma Net without Excel.
Agents that propose purchase orders, code vendor invoices and match bank transactions. You approve.
We build the agents on Visma Net's open API. They propose, and a person on your side always approves before anything is posted; you see who approved what and when. With unlimited users, the person who approves can be in the system without the license growing.
Swedish localization: banking, OCR, VAT and e-invoicing
This applies regardless of the web shop, and it is covered in detail in the general comparison. In short: in Business Central, Swedish bank formats, OCR numbers on invoices and the VAT return file come from third-party apps, and e-invoicing requires a contract with an operator. Microsoft has announced that it is not developing new bank and payment formats, and refers to partners' apps. In Visma Net these are Visma's own services: AutoPay for banking, AutoInvoice for e-invoicing and distribution, AutoReport for VAT, and the OCR number is calculated in the standard product. For an online store that means Klarna reconciliation, bank reconciliation and VAT live in the same system as the order, without three vendors to keep aligned.
The price for a growing online store
Business Central is licensed per user, only through partners, and anyone who only approves needs at least a Team Members license. Add the apps for Swedish localization and the partner's work setting up the connector and the reconciliation.
Visma Net is priced on volume: four packages with a fixed monthly fee plus invoices and payments, from SEK 2,744 a month, with unlimited users and approvers. The integration is included in Click to Cash (in Swedish), our implementation of Visma Net for e-commerce: SEK 95,000 at a fixed price, live in one to two months, or SEK 135,000 if we also build the Shopify store.
Simplified picture. Microsoft and its partners set the price at purchase; always check the current price list with each vendor.
A growing online store gets more people in the system: the person who packs, the one who approves the freight invoices, the one who follows up per channel. In Business Central every new person is a license. In Visma Net the price stays the same.
What Business Central does well
Business Central is Microsoft's ERP for the whole world, with its own Shopify connector, Copilot and Microsoft 365 around it. If you already run your IT in Microsoft's world and have a partner for the apps, it is a reasonable choice. For a growing Swedish online retailer or wholesaler who wants inventory, finance and follow-up to run by themselves, Click to Cash is the shorter step: Visma Net with Swedish localization out of the box, the integration and the reconciliation included, a fixed price, and you try it before you say yes.
Why Straviont as your partner
Straviont is a Visma Net partner and built Click to Cash ourselves. That means four things for you:
The integration between Shopify and Visma Net is our own. It runs in our demo store Vardag every day, and we maintain it after go-live.
The pre-study is free and maps how you work today: channels, inventory, payments and resellers. The flow map is yours to keep, and Visma Net is shaped around it.
After the pre-study we build your own store connected to your own Visma Net in 3–5 days, set up around your workflows. You place orders in it and see them go all the way to posted.
The price is set on the flow map before you say yes and does not change afterwards. The people who do the pre-study build the solution and stay after go-live.
Frequently asked questions
Is Business Central a good fit for e-commerce?
Yes, for many. Business Central has Microsoft's own Shopify connector, inventory, B2B catalogs and Shopify POS, and it suits online retailers who already work in Microsoft's world. For a growing Swedish online store, three things decide it: banking, OCR, VAT and e-invoicing come from partner apps, every user is a license, and how the payouts are reconciled. There Visma Net covers more in the standard product, and with Click to Cash the integration and the reconciliation are included.
Does Business Central work with Shopify?
Yes. Microsoft's own Shopify Connector is preinstalled in Business Central and synchronizes products, prices, inventory, customers, B2B companies, orders, shipments, returns, Shopify POS and transactions, scheduled in the job queue. Payouts are imported and reconciled in the bank reconciliation.
Does Visma Net work with Shopify?
Yes. With Click to Cash our integration is included: the order becomes a sales order in eight seconds, shipments and returns flow back, stock is mirrored to the store and payouts are reconciled order by order. Try it in our demo store.
Does Business Central post the payouts from Shopify Payments?
The transactions are applied to the invoices with the "Suggest Shopify Payments" action, and the payout is reconciled in the bank reconciliation against an interim account, often with the partner's help or an app. With Click to Cash in Visma Net, reconciliation order by order is included, Klarna too.
How does Visma Net handle Klarna payouts?
With Click to Cash it is included. The integration fetches Klarna's settlement, matches every line to the prepayment on the sales order and creates the journal entry on hold, with the fee and VAT separately. You release it, and the clearing account is at zero.
What does Business Central cost for an online store?
A license per user, only through partners, plus a Team Members license for anyone who only approves, plus the apps for Swedish bank formats, OCR, VAT and e-invoicing, plus the partner's setup of the connector. Microsoft and its partners set the price at purchase.
What does Visma Net cost for an online store?
The license is signed with Visma, from SEK 2,744 a month plus transaction volume, with unlimited users. Our implementation, Click to Cash, costs SEK 95,000 at a fixed price including the integration with the web shop, inventory and payouts, or SEK 135,000 if we also build the Shopify store.
Which system suits Shopify B2B?
Both handle business customers. Business Central synchronizes Shopify companies and catalogs. In Visma Net the reseller's order is booked on its own customer, with its price list, terms and credit limit, and the reseller can see its invoices and balance in the store. The credit hold in Visma Net stops the next order before it is picked, and the invoice goes out with OCR, as an e-invoice through AutoInvoice or as a PDF, and is matched on OCR when it is paid.
Does Shopify POS work with Visma Net?
Yes. An order in Shopify POS becomes a sales order in Visma Net just like a web order, and the register's location in Shopify is a warehouse in Visma Net, so the store and the web count on the same stock. Microsoft's connector to Business Central also supports Shopify POS. If you sell in store and online, that is a flow we map in the workshop.
How long does it take to connect Shopify?
Click to Cash takes one to two months from workshop to go-live, with the integration tested on your own orders before launch. The connector is rarely what takes time; it is the conversion of master data, the inventory and the training, whichever system you choose.
Does Business Central need apps in Sweden?
Yes, for most things that are Swedish: bank formats, OCR numbers, the VAT return file and e-invoicing through an operator. Microsoft refers to partners' apps and is not developing new bank and payment formats. In Visma Net these are Visma's own services.
Can we sell in Norway, Denmark and Finland with Visma Net?
Yes. The customer pays in their currency in Shopify, the order is posted in Swedish kronor, the same currency Shopify Payments pays out in, and VAT follows the country the customer buys in. Each market gets its own collective customer and VAT zone in Visma Net, and the next country is a setting. Resellers abroad can be invoiced in their own currency directly in Visma Net.
Can finance in an online store be automated in Visma Net?
Yes, and most of it happens in the flow: the order becomes a sales order with account, VAT and subaccount, the shipment becomes an invoice, the return a credit note and the payouts are matched order by order, without anyone doing anything. Agents for purchasing, coding and matching propose the rest, and you always approve before anything is posted. Visma Net also has AI Connect, Visma's connection to Claude and Microsoft Copilot.
Which partner should we choose for Visma Net and e-commerce?
Choose a partner who has built and runs the integration themselves, starts from your workflows and lets you try before you decide. Straviont does that with Click to Cash: a free pre-study, a prototype with your own store and your own Visma Net in 3–5 days, and a fixed price set before you say yes. Read more in How to choose the right Visma Net partner.
How do you switch from Business Central to Visma Net?
The chart of accounts, customers, vendors and items are converted through our own conversion, Straviont Cloud Bridge, included in the price. The web shop is reconnected to Visma Net and tested with real orders before go-live. How history and stock balances come along is decided in the workshop.
