The alternative to Business Central for a growing Swedish company is Visma Net. It is Visma's ERP for companies that have outgrown accounting software, and it is built so the whole flow runs by itself: the order from the web or the sales rep through picking, shipment, invoice and payment; purchasing driven by sales; inventory in one or several places; banking, VAT and e-invoicing as Visma's own services; several companies under one license; and unlimited users. Business Central can do a lot too, but for a Swedish company the same things require more apps, more licenses and more manual work. This article shows what Visma Net does, what we add on top with Click to Cash, and what that means compared with Business Central.
Short answer: what is the alternative to Business Central?
- you work in Microsoft's world with Power Platform and Copilot, have a partner who handles the apps for Swedish localization, few people in the system, and need manufacturing or service orders in Premium
- finance, orders, purchasing and inventory should run by themselves
- banking, VAT, OCR and e-invoicing should work out of the box without apps
- many people should work and approve without the license growing
- several companies and currencies should come under one license
- and e-commerce or B2B should run in the same flow, with Click to Cash
Business Central can do most things, with the right apps and enough licenses. Visma Net does them out of the box.
What Visma Net automates
This is where the difference sits. Not in the feature list, but in how much happens without anyone doing anything.
The sales order reserves the item, becomes a shipment and an invoice, and the payment is matched on the OCR reference through AutoPay. From the web, a paid order becomes a sales order in eight seconds, with account, VAT and subaccount on every line.
Purchase proposals from sales and reorder points, the purchase order matched to the vendor invoice, and an agent that proposes the next purchase. You approve.
Several locations and bins, reservation, partial delivery and backorders, inventory value posted when the transaction is released and agreeing with the books. Ongoing WMS or a 3PL in the same flow.
Bank files and matching through AutoPay, e-invoicing through AutoInvoice, the VAT return to the Swedish Tax Agency through AutoReport, OCR out of the box, reminders, accruals and a currency per cash account. Visma's own services, not apps.
Governed by your own rules: cost center, project, supplier or reference, line by line, with amount limits. Unlimited approvers.
The companies under the same license, the next company from a template, consolidation per period, and the same subaccount in all of them, so the group is followed up one way.
The subaccount on every line, segments you name yourselves, balances per segment. Margin per channel, customer and product group without Excel.
Coding of vendor invoices, matching of bank transactions, purchase proposals. They propose, a person on your side always approves before anything is posted, and Visma's AI Connect connects Claude and Copilot to the system.
This is Visma Net out of the box, plus what we build on top. None of it requires an app from another vendor, and none of it costs more when more people work in the system.
Click to Cash: Visma Net set up for e-commerce and B2B
If you sell online, or to resellers, Click to Cash is the package: Visma Net set up for your store and your warehouse, with our own integration and our agents, at a fixed price. The integration is built by us, runs every day in our demo store Vardag and is maintained by us after go-live.
Shopify, WooCommerce, Centra or Norce. A paid order becomes a sales order in eight seconds, edits, partial shipments and returns follow, and stock goes back to the store every five minutes.
Klarna, Shopify Payments and other providers matched order by order, with the fee and VAT separately. The journal entry waits for your approval, and the clearing account is at zero.
Own customer in Visma Net with price list, terms and credit limit. The credit hold stops the next order already in the store, the invoice goes with OCR and e-invoice, the payment is matched.
Visma Net as the source of truth, your own warehouse or several, Ongoing WMS or your 3PL in the same flow, with stock per location out to the store.
Purchasing, coding and matching that propose. You approve. Everything logged: who, what and when.
SEK 95,000, or SEK 135,000 if we also build the store in Shopify. Set on the flow map before you say yes, and it does not change afterwards. Licenses are signed with Visma.
That is the package we put up against Business Central with the Shopify Connector: not a connector that brings the order in, but the whole flow from click to posted, with Swedish localization out of the box and unlimited users. Place an order in Vardag and see it in Visma Net eight seconds later; the full offer is on Click to Cash (in Swedish).
Business Central: the same things, with more parts to hold together
Business Central also has orders, purchasing, inventory, several companies and dimensions. It is a good ERP, and that is worth saying. The difference is what is required around it for a Swedish company.
Bank formats, OCR on the customer invoice, the VAT return and e-invoicing through an operator come from partner apps, each with a price and a contract. Microsoft develops no new bank and payment formats in the product. AppSource is a strength at the same time: there is an app for most things.
Essentials SEK 764.70, Premium SEK 1,051.40 and Team Members SEK 76.50 per user per month, paid annually. Every new person is a license, including anyone who only approves, and Premium requires Premium for everyone.
The Shopify connector imports payouts as supporting information; the reconciliation against an interim account is done in the bank reconciliation, often with the partner's help. Klarna is outside the connector.
Two major ones a year, mandatory. An app that is not compatible can make the update fail, and the customer and partner are responsible for the solution.
With the right partner and the right apps, all of that works. But it is four more things to pay for, contract and keep compatible, to get where Visma Net with Click to Cash is from the start.
Visma Net versus Business Central, line by line
The full comparison, with banking, OCR, VAT and approvals in detail, is in Visma Net vs Business Central. For a web shop it is in Visma Net or Business Central for e-commerce?
And if the company is small?
Then the alternative to Business Central is usually not an ERP at all, but accounting software: Fortnox or Spiris, Visma's software for smaller companies. They are enough as long as the workflows are straightforward and few people work in the system. Visma Net is the step when they are not, and from Spiris it is a step within Visma.
How a switch works
- Free pre-study
- The flow map
- Demo built around you, 3 to 5 days
- Fixed price
- Conversion and testing
- Go-live
The chart of accounts, customers, vendors and items are converted and included in the price. How history comes along is decided in the pre-study.
A switch takes from four weeks for finance and one to two months with e-commerce and inventory, outside your peaks. The conversion is included, the integrations are tested on your own orders before launch, and the people who do the pre-study are the ones who build and stay afterwards.
Why Straviont
We are a Visma Net partner, and we built Click to Cash, the integration and the agents ourselves. That means the people who set up your system are the ones who built what you run on, and the ones you call afterwards. The pre-study is free and maps how you work in Business Central today; the flow map is yours to keep. After it we build a Visma Net set up around your workflows in 3 to 5 days, for online retailers with your own store connected to it, so you compare with your own orders before you decide. The price is set on the flow map and does not change afterwards, and the same consultants follow you from the pre-study to after go-live.
Frequently asked questions
What is the alternative to Business Central for Swedish companies?
Visma Net, Visma's ERP for companies that have outgrown accounting software: orders, purchasing, inventory and finance automated, banking, OCR, VAT and e-invoicing as Visma's own services, several companies under one license and unlimited users. For e-commerce and B2B we set it up as Click to Cash, at a fixed price. For smaller companies with straightforward workflows, Fortnox or Spiris is often enough.
Can Visma Net automate the whole order flow?
Yes. The sales order reserves the item, becomes a shipment and an invoice, and the payment is matched on the OCR reference. From the web shop a paid order becomes a sales order in eight seconds with Click to Cash, and payouts from Klarna and Shopify Payments are matched order by order.
Can Visma Net handle several warehouses?
Yes. Several locations and bins, reservation, partial delivery and backorders out of the box, with an inventory value that agrees with the books. If the warehouse should scan and batch-pick, we set up Ongoing WMS in the same flow, in your own warehouse or at a 3PL.
Does Visma Net automate purchasing?
Yes. Purchase proposals are calculated from sales and reorder points, the purchase order is matched to the vendor invoice, and our agent proposes the next purchase. You approve before anything is sent.
What is Click to Cash?
Our package for online retailers and wholesalers: Visma Net set up for your store and your warehouse, our own integration to the web shop, Klarna and Shopify Payments matched order by order, the reseller on their own customer with a credit hold, and agents for purchasing, coding and matching. SEK 95,000 at a fixed price, live in one to two months.
Why do companies switch from Business Central to Visma Net?
Usually because the Swedish parts require apps from several vendors, because the license is per person and grows with the company, because the updates require the apps to keep up, or because they want finance to run by itself without the partner's hours.
What does Business Central do better?
Microsoft's world: Power Platform, Microsoft 365 and Copilot connect to it, AppSource has an app for most things, and Premium has manufacturing and service orders. If you already work there, with few in the system and a partner for the apps, it is a reasonable choice.
What does it cost to switch to Visma Net?
Our implementation of Visma Net Core costs SEK 75,000 at a fixed price, Click to Cash for e-commerce SEK 95,000. The license is signed with Visma from SEK 2,744 a month with unlimited users. The conversion is included. The price is set after a free pre-study.
How long does a switch take?
From four weeks for finance, one to two months with e-commerce and inventory, outside your peaks. The integrations are tested on your own orders before go-live.
Can we try Visma Net before we switch?
Yes. You get your own login to our demo company after a short walkthrough, and after the pre-study a demo built around you in 3 to 5 days. Online retailers can place an order in our demo store right now.
